S C HW E R P U N K T 11 02 | LICHT GEDANKEN F E AT U R E Time of upheaval — 500 years of Reformation On Luther’s trail in Jena and Thuringia When Martin Luther protested against the Church’s sale of indulgences with his 95 Wittenberg Theses 500 years ago, he set a reformmovement of epochal proportions in motion. The Reformation not only affected the Church and reli- gion but also changed the whole of Europe. Significant sites of where Luther lived and worked are located in Thuringia, and numerous sources and docu- ments in Thuringia’s archives and libraries testify to this day to the far-reaching upheavals in culture, education, society and politics. Research on Luther and the Reformation enjoys a long tradition at the University of Jena, the founding of which was also a direct consequence of the Reformation, and it is highly regarded in international circles. »
